What we are doing
We are working with technology companies to develop a way of interacting with the internet that empowers blind people to get the most out of it.
A group of students at IBM have adopted our challenge to create a Conversational Internet – where you can browse the internet by just using your voice as part of a innovation summer camp.
They have developed a prototype which has just been unveiled. This will enable people who can’t see the screen or keyboard to browse naturally “hands free, eyes free”.
Read about our collaboration with IBM.
We aim to make touchscreen devices available to those who need them at the lowest price.
The cost of accessing new technology can be very high, given that many blind people aren’t able to work and don’t have strong credit histories. Over two thirds of blind people are living in poverty, so owning a touch screen device is often out of reach.
If you’d like to get involved with either of these big ideas, contact us conversation@rlsb.org.uk.
