Dorton College: Your learning experience
Your learning experience is based on our JIGSAW Curriculum. We’ve named it JIGSAW because it’s about fitting together, the pieces chosen by you, to complete a picture of independence and is designed so that your ability to achieve your aspirations is not limited.
Our staff are specially trained and experienced in working with blind and partially sighted young people and will be there to support you every step of the way.
What does JIGSAW look like?
JIGSAW is the ASDAN accredited Skills for Independent Living Curriculum, which will give you skills you’ll need to make the most of your home, work and social life.
You’ll be working on how you manage your day to day life at home and out and about in the community; your relationships; and how to make your aspirations for work a reality.
The course has four core modules, which link together create a foundation for independent living.
Module 1: Self care and presentation skills
Module 2: Practical daily living skills
Module 3: Personal and social skills/citizenship skills
Module 4 : Work related skills
All of these modules are taught through experiences that are woven into daily life through a combination of class, activity and work based learning.
