Nurses

A team of nurses attend to the day-to-day medical needs of the pupils and students to ensure that their general health and well-being is maintained and always top priority.

Mobility & Orientation

School pupil in mobility lesson with long cane outside Dorton House School buildingThe aim of our mobility programme is to provide our pupils and students with the skills, concepts and experiences necessary to enable them to travel independently with safety, confidence and efficiency.

Mobility training involves the teaching of mobility and orientation skills. Good mobility skills enable the pupils and students to move around safely; but, purposeful movement cannot be attained without good orientation skills which are necessary for them to establish their position in the environment using their remaining senses.

Orientation and mobility allows pupils and students the opportunity to take responsibility for themselves, make choices, engage in a varied range of recreational and leisure pursuits and enter employment on a par with their sighted peers.
