Your Commitment
The RLSB employs over 300 people across various sites in London and Kent. Our client services are diverse and require a wide range of skills including assembly and engineering, teaching, classroom support for clients aged 2 to 60, vocational guidance, employment support, care working, therapy, rehabilitation and keywork support.
You will need to:
- believe in empowering our clients in all our services
- want to make a difference for people who are blind and partially sighted
- enjoy working alongside diverse colleagues, partner organisations, volunteers and supporters who may be from very different cultural and language backgrounds
- be flexible, adaptable and ready to meet new challenges; whatever the challenge, you'll demonstrate a "can do" approach, which emphasises getting things done
- work cost-effectively, recognising that donors have often made great sacrifices to provide the funds for the RLSB to make an impact
- reflect, through your professionalism, the qualities which develops and maintains our external kitemarks throughout the Society
- observe and implement our Code of Conduct and other policies at all times
The Society is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Working Standards
The RLSB supports vulnerable groups including children, young people and adults with disabilities. Our Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour and practice expected of all staff and volunteers and covers child and vulnerable adults' protection.
Recruitment Standards
All successful applicants are subject to extensive background checking during and after the recruitment process, particularly when the role requires unsupervised access to children and vulnerable groups. This includes a Criminal Records Bureau check, reference taking, follow-up validations of references, checking of qualifications, checking of employment gaps and appropriate interview questioning.
Application bank and bank staff
In order to capture and retain the interest of those who may want to work for us we are happy for prospective CVs to be sent to us outlining the type of work you may wish to do. These will be retained for a period of 6 months and if appropriate vacancies arise you will be notified and sent an application pack and form to complete.
